Come hear classical music’s rising stars at 8pm on June 7th at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion as the 30th annual Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival kicks off in The Woodlands! Admission is free. 

Celebrating its 30th anniversary season, the Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival (TMF) and international music residency will launch its 2019 TMF Orchestra Series with world-acclaimed pianist Kenneth Broberg, The Van Cliburn International Piano Competition 2017 Silver Medalist, performing Rachmaninoff: “Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini” Friday, June 7, 8 p.m., at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. New York-based violin virtuoso Xiao Wang, 2012 winner of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist Competition, will return to The Pavilion this night as guest concertmaster for 2019 TMF Orchestra. 

The momentous opening night concert also will feature the “Bookends Aaron Copland: Fanfare for the Common Man” and Joan Tower: “Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman,” commissioned by the Houston Symphony in 1986 to honor women in the classical music world, and Rimsky Korsakov: “Scheherazade, an evocative piece that channels Sinbad and other tales of the Arabian Nights.

The music magic continues all month long with classical music’s rising stars from premier music schools and conservatories from around the world arriving in Houston to study and perform major classical works. Based at the University of Houston (UH) Moores School of Music, the one-month international music residency will feature performances by gifted student musicians and distinguished conductors and faculty artists in more than 30 performances, including the 2019 Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist concerto competition Sunday, June 9, 2:30 p.m. (free) at the UH Dudley Recital Hall (Main Campus.)
